Our Story
THE WAYFARER, PARBOLD; EST. 1997
Nestled in the valley of the River Douglas in picturesque Parbold village, The Wayfarer Brew Pub & Dining Rooms is a cherished independent country pub that has been a part of the community for three decades. With a rich history and a passion for quality food and hand-crafted beers, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming atmosphere where friends and families (with well-behaved dogs too!) can gather.
We're award winning, family run, and have an outstanding reputation for tasty dishes, our (extremely) locally brewed beers and our welcoming, relaxed ambience.

A Long Time Coming
CENTURIES IN
THE MAKING
We've been part of the landscape for a while. The pub section of the building dates back to the 1700s and is one of the oldest buildings in the village. However it wasn't always a pub, starting life as two stone cottages. In the 1960's the site was turned into a restaurant, before becoming a guest house called The Wayfarer.
In the 1990s, husband and wife Mel and Nadine Street
purchased the property and turned it into a pub and restaurant.
The Wayfarer as we know it opened in 1997. Three generations of the Birkett/Street family have loved and cared for our beloved country pub since then.
Finding Our Way
TIME FLIES
In 2017, on the 20th birthday of the business, The Wayfarer was awarded the Best Family Business award in the highly-contested BIBAs (Be Inspired Business Awards). We were also finalists in the Leisure Business of the Year and Business Person of the Year categories for manager, Rachel Birkett.
In 2022, Jonny, Rachel, and her sister Katie took over the businesses, with Nadine still managing the office and Mel still helping on site, working tirelessly to continue what made The Wayfarer special, whilst bringing their own passion and creativity to the business.

Just The Beginning
CREATING A PROBLEM OR TWO
In 2010, Rachel’s husband Jonny converted their former house next to The Wayfarer into a micro-brewery (as you do) and established Problem Child Brewing, giving our country pub its own on-site brewery. Problem Child beers boast an array of distinct flavours and have won critics over who continue to travel to sample Parbold’s very own brew. Great ales are at the
heart of The Wayfarer, reflected by prominence in
CAMRA's Good Beer Guide since 2010.
In 2015, The Wayfarer started hosting beer and gin festivals. This grew into Problem Child Events, which now hosts three festivals every year on ‘The Field' next to the pub. The Events team also help with our yearly Santa Camp throughout December. Learn more about our festivals below.

When will you be joining us?
We cater for all tastes, alongside our hand crafted ales and beers. We stock quality ale from established breweries around the country and artisan beers from microbreweries, both local and far. Our range of continental lagers, world beers, and ciders are available in craft, keg, and bottles. Please just ask at the bar.
Located a short distance away from both the M6 and M58, The Wayfarer is surrounded by beautiful countryside and welcomes many walkers and dog lovers, plus their furry friends! Dining with us? Booking is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.
